Walking into the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art in the summer I saw an irresistible array of tall, upright pink, feathery lilies lining the walkway. I knew that I'd have to do a painting of one. Usually I zoom in on the bloom filling the page but the shape of this flower demanded to be expressed, so I put it against a dark background of blues transitioning to greens.
