Powerful calla lilies like this trumpet gardens so easily in the San Francisco area. My daughter's back yard always has them blooming abundantly. I love this one for its white heart shape view of the elegant bloom and the wavering green leaves which I've painted with a slight turquoise hue. This painting is so sensual and glowing as only watercolor can be!
This painting is pure transparent watercolor on a full sheet of 300# Arches Cold Press paper. The art is professionally photographed which will make reproductions impossible to discern from the original painting other than the deckle edge of the painting which is part of the original art.
The image goes right through to the ragged deckle edges of the paper. When I frame these paintings I float the paper on an archival backing without a mat to show the lively edges of the paper. The frame is a white metal 1" contemporary frame.

For the past dozen years I've been painting flowers up so close that they envelope the viewer in their sensuality and rich color. I call these paintings Floralscapes as they feel like a landscape of bloom that the viewer can get lost deep within. These Floralscapes, Watercolor Life Drawings and Sumi paintings can be seen on my fine art web site at http://www.sandyhaightfineart.com.
In 2012 I qualified to be a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS). This is earned by being juried into a select number of local chapter and international watercolor society shows sponsored by NWWS. The initials now follow my signature in recent paintings.
I’ve used watercolor and ink brush line in my illustration work for over 20 years, but in a much more controlled and predictable way. My artworks appear on book jackets, ads, posters, logos and packaging all over the country and Canada.
