I was inspired to paint a huge vertical Floralscape for the big wall at the entry to my show at the July 2021 Art Walk on Bainbridge Island. This painting was a challenge of complexity and scale but the image called out to be larger than life so the viewer could just dive into the flower. I've been painting large flowers that I call Floralscapes that explore the inside of the bloom rather than the shape of it against a background. It becomes more abstract and sensual even though it is based on representational references.
I love the luminous transparency of watercolor, the sensual glow of the colors and the fact that the paint can move and flow on its own while wet, intermingling with other colors. Magic happens.
My paintings are professionally photographed making prints almost identical to the original painting.
