Exhibition Catalog.

Crossing the Line: The Passport Re-Imagined is a traveling exhibition built around ideas and ideals of identity, belonging, and freedom of movement. Twelve artists were commissioned by the Cynthia Sears Artists’ Books Collection to take inspiration from the passport and other travel documents to create an artist book. Another sixteen artists’ books were curated from the collection to bring additional perspectives, taking us around the world, into the past and into the future, offering an incisive look at the promises and limitations of the passport, often reflecting the power of possession and the nationality or group that has conferred belonging.

The catalog is a companion piece to the traveling exhibition which will be at five locations across the United States. Each location will have its own version of the catalog available with a location “stamped” on the inside title page, inspired by a traditional passport.
